Quick-Release Jeep Wrangler Door Removal Guide for Newer Models
by AutoExpert | 12 December, 2025
Jeep Wrangler owners have always treated door-removal like a seasonal ritual. On older models, it mostly came down to tracking down the Torx tool kit and unscrewing a few stubborn bolts. But the newest Wranglers changed the game: the doors now use a vertical quick-release pin instead of bolts, making the whole process much faster — as long as you know what you’re doing.
Before grabbing tools, check your state laws about driving without doors and remember you’ll need side mirrors. After that, the steps are pretty straightforward.

How the new quick-release system works
Start by rolling the windows down so the glass is protected. Then find the wiring that runs between the door and the body — wrapped in nylon on most models. Unhook the nylon strap from its little anchor point; cracking the door slightly (not fully open) helps create slack.
Behind a small interior cover near the hinges is the wiring harness. Pop the cover off and disconnect the harness by sliding the red clip upward and flipping the small white latch that locks the connectors together. It’s simple once you see it.
Now for the good part: pull the vertical release pin straight up from the hinge. Do that for both hinges. After that, the door lifts straight off the Wrangler. Jeep recommends having a second person for this step — the doors are heavier than they look, and dropping one is an expensive way to ruin your weekend.
Why people go doorless — and what to watch out for
Going doorless is a staple of off-roading culture. Without doors, drivers get a clearer view of rocks, ruts, and obstacles right next to the tires. And with that weight gone, the Wrangler feels a bit more agile on slow, technical trails.
But there’s a practical side to consider: where are those doors going to live? They need a safe, padded spot. Many owners lay moving blankets on the garage floor or use inexpensive wall-mounted hooks (often around $30). Jeep sells storage bags and racks, too, if you want a cleaner setup.

Taking the doors off a modern Wrangler is easier than ever — just unplug, unpin, lift, and store. Do it right, and you get the open-air experience without sacrificing your paint, your wiring, or your temper.
