This 2,100-LB American Supercar Has 700 HP and Almost Nothing to Hide Behind

Supercars keep getting more powerful, more digital, and more complicated. Then along comes Peregryn Automotive with a very different idea. What if all you really needed was a lightweight chassis, a naturally aspirated American V8, and enough downforce to make every corner feel like an event? That question sits at the heart of the company's new GT-S and GT-R.

Peregryn has acquired the intellectual property, tooling, and production rights to the Ultima lineup, bringing the British-born cars to the U.S.

The GT-S is designed as the road-friendly option, offering more than 500 hp, a top speed above 200 mph (322 km/h), and a choice between analog or digital gauges. The GT-R takes things much further with up to 700 hp, a dry weight of around 2,100 lbs (953 kg), a sequential gearbox, race-focused suspension, AP Racing brakes, and a carbon-fiber aero package generating more than 1,200 lbs (544 kg) of downforce. Peregryn also claims a 0-60 mph time of just 2.2 seconds.

Perhaps the most interesting part isn't the performance figures. Both models use Chevrolet LS and LT-series V8 engines, giving owners access to one of the biggest aftermarket ecosystems in the world instead of relying on a highly specialized exotic powertrain. Peregryn is also moving away from Ultima's kit-car roots by selling fully assembled cars, making ownership far less intimidating than before.

Pricing is expected to start around $195,000, putting the GT-S right alongside the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. So, which one would end up in your garage?
