Xiaomi’s New SUV Is Bigger Than a Model Y, Goes 908 Miles and Costs Thousands Less

Xiaomi has cut the price of its new Skynomad N70, making the five-seat SUV cheaper in China than both the Tesla Model Y and Xiaomi’s own YU7.

The N70 uses a range-extender powertrain instead of a fully electric setup. A 1.5-liter gasoline engine works with either a 52 kWh or 76 kWh battery. The N70 Pro starts at 209,900 yuan ($31,275), while the N70 Max costs from 239,900 yuan ($35,745).

The Pro uses a single rear electric motor with 282 hp. Its 52 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery provides 218 miles of electric range, while the range-extender system increases total range to 839 miles.

The Max adds a second motor for a combined 416 hp. Its 76 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery delivers 314 miles of electric range and up to 908 miles overall. It also gets air suspension.

The N70 measures 195.2 inches long, 78.6 inches wide, and 70.2 inches tall, with a 116.1-inch wheelbase. It is 6.4 inches longer than the standard Tesla Model Y. The Model Y starts at 263,500 yuan ($39,270) in China, while the Xiaomi YU7 starts at 253,300 yuan ($37,700).

Xiaomi also gives the N70 a long equipment list. Standard features include 180-degree rotating front seats, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, a 20-inch head-up display, a 16.1-inch infotainment screen, an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, and 14 speakers. The Max gets a 25-speaker system.

Reports also claim the N70 and larger N90 attracted up to 100,000 pre-orders in their first week.
