Volkswagen ID Buzz Self-Driving Ambulance Would Save More Lives

In the wake of Volkswagen's electrification, the automaker has unveiled a slew of innovative new concepts. As the world gears up for driverless cars, these concepts will only expand. Volkswagen ID Buzz is one of the upcoming automobiles that we're particularly interested in.

It's a wonderful retro-styled electric minivan bus. To demonstrate how versatile the small bus can be, many early bay-window Volkswagens were converted into fire trucks. This is why Volkswagen debuted delivery trucks and autonomous taxi models based on ID Buzz technology and now the company is showing off a driverless ambulance.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles unveiled the innovative concept at the ITS World Congress in Hamburg, Germany, where they showcased several uses for an electrified driverless bus. Another version was briefly shown, with bright yellow paint as part of a standard ambulance livery, in addition to the taxi and cargo van ID Buzz designs already discussed.

Due to this new design, a conventional two-person team's effectiveness would be doubled by having two paramedics working on the patient simultaneously. It is expected that autonomous ambulances will save more lives by reducing or eliminating the necessity for one of the paramedics to be focused on driving tasks.

To further demonstrate its dedication to the environment, the clip also features some innovative materials that will be used in all future Volkswagen cars. Materials derived from industrial waste, such as carpets and fishing nets are some examples.

Those fibers will be spun into yarns and used to manufacture floormats and other items like that. This is particularly meaningful in a driverless ID Buzz vehicle because the users will be more concerned with the components in the cabin than if they were driving. The materials will remain comfortable to the touch and attractive to the eye. The manufacturing versions of these designs should be on roads by 2026, according to estimates.
