SAIC-GM Gen-Z Explorer Concept Promises 745 Miles Of Range

To mark 28 years of working together, SAIC and GM kept things refreshingly low-key. They introduced the Gen-Z Explorer, a sleek electric hatchback concept designed with China’s EV future in mind.
Created by the joint SAIC-GM design team at PATAC, the Gen-Z Explorer looks nothing like anything currently in Buick’s lineup. Its minimalist, clean design and compact three-door layout help it stand out, and a production version (possibly under Buick’s new Electra sub-brand) could offer a more practical five-door setup.

There’s plenty of futuristic flair too. The front and rear feature micro LEDs that can display graphics or messages. Beneath the stylish shell, the concept is seriously powerful: dual motors producing 644 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and a 0–62 mph time of just 3.8 seconds.
The claimed range is even more eye-catching. With a high-density battery and an 800-volt system, it could deliver up to 745 miles on a full charge and up to 373 miles of range in just 10 minutes using fast charging. It even supports wireless charging.
No production plans have been confirmed yet, but if this EV makes it to showrooms, expect it to wear a Buick Electra badge and be aimed squarely at younger Chinese buyers looking for something smart, fast, and electric.
