Polestar 6 Pushed to 2029 As Brand Expands Lineup
by AutoExpert | 23 February, 2026
Most people know Polestar as the brand that started as Volvo’s performance arm before breaking away to focus purely on EVs. It has been a bumpy ride at times, but 2025 turned out to be its strongest sales year so far. Now the company wants to build on that momentum.
The goal is ambitious. Polestar is aiming for 100,000 global sales by rolling out four new models between now and 2028. That lineup includes the Polestar 5, Polestar 4, an updated Polestar 2, and the upcoming Polestar 7. A wagon is also part of the broader plan, which makes sense given Polestar’s Scandinavian roots.

As for the much-talked-about Polestar 6, that one is taking longer than expected. First shown in concept form in 2022, it was initially expected to arrive much sooner. Now it has been pushed back while the company focuses on higher-volume models. According to CEO Michael Lohscheller, the 6 will be a low-volume halo product aimed at higher profit segments rather than mass sales.

The current target puts the Polestar 6 at 2029 at the earliest. That is a long wait, especially for a car that generated so much buzz when it debuted. But from a business perspective, it is not surprising. Roadsters do not move big numbers. SUVs and sedans do.

It feels like a practical move. The Polestar 6 would be great for image, but Polestar needs high-volume models to grow and stay stable. The roadster still sounds exciting, just not a priority right now.
