Nissan’s New Terrano PHEV Looks Ready for Real Off-Road Work
by AutoExpert | 24 April, 2026
Nissan didn’t just bring concepts to Beijing, it brought cars that feel ready to hit the road tomorrow.
The one that really stands out is the new Terrano PHEV. The name might be familiar, but this is a whole different take. It’s bigger, tougher, and sits right between the Patrol and the X-Trail. Feels like a proper SUV, not just another crossover.

We don’t have full details yet, but there’s a strong hint at what’s under it. It could share its base with a pickup-based PHEV built in China, which means body-on-frame. That’s already interesting. Power might come from a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor, putting out around 429 hp and 800 Nm. If that’s accurate, it won’t be lacking grunt.

The design leans into that rugged feel. It sits tall, looks wide, and has a lot of presence. Big lights, skid plate, tow hooks, extra lamps. You also get roof rails, chunky wheel arches, and a spare wheel mounted at the back. It looks like it actually wants to leave the road.

The second concept is a different story. The Urban SUV PHEV is more about style and city life. It’s smoother, cleaner, and clearly aimed at younger buyers. No visible door handles, digital mirrors, or slim LEDs. It feels more like something made to stand out in traffic than go off-road.

Nissan hasn’t shared much about what comes next, but the Terrano heading to markets outside China is a good sign.
One feels made for rough roads and the other more for city life. And both seem pretty close to production, at least to us.
