Meet The Hyundai Insteroid—A Radical Mashup Of Retro And Rally
by AutoExpert | 3 April, 2025
Take a look at Hyundai's latest innovative concept, the Insteroid. Yeah, you read that right—Insteroid. The name’s a mashup of “Inster” and “steroid,” and one glance makes it clear why. This thing looks like the Inster hit the gym and never left.
The boxy fenders are so huge and exaggerated that the rear wheels practically hang out in open space, making the back doors pointless. Up front, there’s a deep bumper with an integrated splitter and sawtooth slats above the front wheels. Meanwhile, the hatch's massive hoop spoiler is reminiscent of a 1980s Group B rally car.

Inside, Hyundai doubled down on the motorsport theme. The cabin’s stripped bare: no carpets, just a roll cage, bucket seats, and a vibe that says, "We don’t do comfort here." But there’s a playful side, too, with space-invader graphics and a built-in Beat House sound system—a nod to gaming and tuner culture.

Hyundai’s keeping quiet about what’s under the hood. We’re hoping (maybe wishfully) that it packs the same 641-hp dual-motor setup from the Ioniq 5 N. That’s what powered last year’s RN24 drift concept, which the Insteroid clearly borrows from, just with bodywork this time.

“This project allowed us to fully embrace unrestrained creativity, drawing inspiration from video games to create an emotional and engaging vision of Hyundai’s brand,” said Eduardo Ramírez, Hyundai Design Europe’s Chief Designer. Translation: This car is a digital fever dream brought to life.

Will you see it at your local Hyundai dealership anytime soon? Probably not.
