Lucid Prepares Cosmos And Earth Models For 2027 Launch
by AutoExpert | 15 March, 2026
Lucid Motors built its name on cars like the Lucid Air and the newer Lucid Gravity. Both pushed EV range and efficiency further than most rivals. The catch was always the price. These are luxury cars. Even the Gravity starts around $80,000.
Lucid knows that limits how many people can actually buy one. So the company is working on something different. In a recent investor presentation, it shared more details about a new architecture called the Midsize platform. The goal is pretty clear. Bring Lucid’s technology to cars that cost under $50,000.

Three vehicles are planned on this platform. Two already have names. One is the Lucid Cosmos. That will be the practical entry point into the brand. Roomy, efficient, and aimed at everyday use. The second is the Lucid Earth. That one is meant to feel a bit more adventurous and performance-focused. A third model will follow, though Lucid has not revealed what it will be yet.
All of them will use a new electric drive unit called Atlas. It is smaller and lighter than Lucid’s earlier motors. The front and rear units share the same housing and mounting points, which helps simplify manufacturing. That means fewer parts and lower costs.

Efficiency is still the company’s main card to play. Because Lucid’s powertrains use energy very carefully, the company says these new cars can run on smaller battery packs while still delivering a strong range. Since batteries are the most expensive part of any EV, using fewer of them helps bring the price down.
Lucid also showed a small concept called the Lucid Lunar. It is a compact two-seat robotaxi built on the same platform. Instead of focusing on private buyers, it is designed for ride-hailing fleets, where low running costs matter most. Lucid is already in discussions with Uber about using its vehicles in future autonomous services.

For now, though, these midsize cars are still a few years away. Lucid is focused on ramping up production of the Gravity SUV first. The new models are expected to arrive around 2027.
If Lucid manages to deliver a car under $50,000 with the same efficiency it showed in the Air, things could get interesting. Plenty of people like what the company is doing. They just could not justify the price before. This next move is meant to change that.
