Genesis Magma GT Could Become A Real Production Supercar

Genesis took the liberty of making some noise for its tenth birthday, so rather than saving that surprise for Los Angeles, the company rolled out the Magma GT at a special event in France. Is this Genesis finally showing it wants to create something genuinely impressive?
The Magma GT’s front has a biting, pointed appearance, one almost reminiscent of a shark. Up front you get a chunky splitter, a wide grille with the classic Genesis pattern, and twin light bars that taper off into tiny fins.

The hood is vented, the doors open vertically, and the blacked-out pillars make the windows appear a single, smooth wraparound. From the side, the Magma GT keeps things sharp and clean. Flush door handles and a cabin that narrows into a boat-tail at the back. Large vents reside behind the front wheels, and the rear fenders flare out, giving the concept a proper wide-body look.

The lightweight wheels are powered by hard brakes, as is typical for a car of this shape that will need lots of stopping power to keep pace. The rear is equally dramatic: a full light bar, glowing Genesis letters, a vented rear panel, and a three-piece exhaust directly in the middle. It does leave an impact, for sure. Genesis did confirm that the Magma GT contains its engine somewhere in the middle but did not specify which one it does. Still, most people expect a V8.

Meanwhile, design chief Luc Donckerwolke described the car as the pinnacle of Genesis’ performance goals and said it is intended to feel entirely in sync with its driver. The interesting part is that Genesis is not using this as a one-off show toy. They are hinting that this could become a real production car, and perhaps even a race car in the future. We’ll have to wait and see.
