Alpina DNA, Zagato Design, And 611 Horses - What’s Not To Love?

What you’re looking at isn’t just another pretty coupe—it’s the Bovensiepen Zagato, a coachbuilt grand tourer based on the BMW M4, and it just made its world debut at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza. It marks the return of the family behind Alpina, who clearly aren’t done with the world of fast, luxurious cars just yet.
If the name Bovensiepen sounds familiar, that’s because it should. The family founded Alpina, BMW’s in-house performance brand that was officially brought into the BMW fold in 2022. But even after stepping away from that role, the Bovensiepens weren’t ready to hang up the gloves. Instead, they’ve launched a new brand under their own name with a simple mission: build seriously refined, bespoke cars for people who want something beyond what’s in a showroom.

Their first project is a full-on collaboration with Italian design legends Zagato. The result is the car you see here—a carbon-bodied grand tourer that blends German engineering with Italian flair in the best way possible.

At first glance, it’s hard to see the BMW M4 bones underneath. However, the signature double-bubble roof screams Zagato, while the front and rear styling mix cues from past BMW concept cars. There are hints of Alpina too, like the slim taillight signature and the multi-spoke 20-inch wheels. Every panel is made from carbon fiber, and even with all the custom work, weight is kept in check—though it’s still around 120 kg (265 lbs) heavier than a standard M4.

Inside, things are just as tailored. The layout is recognizably BMW, but dressed up with custom materials and colors. The show car gets a deep blue leather interior, but Bovensiepen offers 16 leather choices, 45 Alcantara options, and full bespoke personalization for those who want to go all-out.

Under the hood, the Bovensiepen Zagato packs a tuned version of the M4’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six, now pushing 611 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. Despite the extra weight, it still hits 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds and tops out beyond 186 mph. It also features a lightweight titanium Akrapovič exhaust and custom Bilstein Damptronic suspension, tuned for more comfort.

Curiously, Bovensiepen hasn’t confirmed whether the car is rear- or all-wheel drive, or which M4 version they started from. They’re not even using the BMW name in their materials, but make no mistake: this is an M4 at heart, just elevated to a whole new level.

After its debut, the brand plans to start limited production, with the first Bovensiepen Zagato cars expected to reach customers by mid-2026. Final pricing and production numbers will be announced later this year, but don’t expect it to be remotely affordable.
