Why The Ineos Grenadier Is Getting More Expensive In The US

The Ineos Grenadier is getting hit hard by new US tariffs. On top of the existing 25 percent “chicken tax,” there’s now another 12.5 percent added on, which pushes the price even higher for American buyers. That’s frustrating, because the Grenadier is a proper off-roader with a ladder-frame chassis and big six-cylinder engines, built for people who actually plan to use it.
At first glance, the solution seems obvious: build the Grenadier in the US and avoid the extra taxes. Ineos has admitted that American production is a real possibility.

However, tariffs aren’t the main reason the company would set up a factory there. The bigger issue is scale. Ineos already has a large plant in France that supplies vehicles to dozens of markets, and it doesn’t make sense to open a second factory until the first one is running at full capacity.

There’s also a brand awareness problem. Many buyers still don’t know what the Grenadier is, or they lump it in with everyday SUVs. Ineos believes that will change over time, especially as more owners get out there and show what the vehicle can really do.

Electrification is still part of the long-term plan, but it’s not being rushed. The company is holding off until regulations and incentives become clearer. A range-extender model looks like the most realistic next step, since it offers electric driving without the stress of limited range.

For now, Ineos is focused on staying flexible, growing at a sensible pace, and continuing to build rugged vehicles for people who need something tough, not trendy.
