What Are The Chances For The New Tesla Roadster To Become 'The World's Fastest Accelerating Road Car'?

Tesla again hit the speed button with its next Tesla Roadster performance numbers. At last, after numerous delays, this second-generation Tesla Roadster will reach the production line and this one without being a top priority. Right now, Tesla’s team is mainly focused on developing that Tesla Model 3 and all other mainstream model production remains ongoing.

The Roadster concept was revealed in 2017, and in June 2018 the Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the supercar and hypercar killer will feature the optional SpaceX Package which would bring cold gas thrusters for enhanced maneuverability and improved performance. Now, we already knew the Roadster, due next year (fingers crossed), will blast from 0 to 60 mph in about 1.9 seconds. Neither Musk nor anyone else at Tesla has provided a specific figure once the SpaceX package is added. Today, it appears we have our answer.

The Roadster prototype was spotted recently at the Petersen Automotive Museum in California and the accompanying image had the following description – “a 0-60 mph time of 1.1 seconds; a rate largely unprecedented among modern road cars."  If you think of the upcoming Rimac C_Two performance ranked at 0-60 mph (0-92 km/h) sprint in just 1.85 seconds and the Lotus Evija would perform the same distance acceleration in less than 3 seconds - the Roadster combustion-engine hypercars would seem like a rocket on the street.

The base model should have a price start at least around $200,000. More details about the almighty SpaceX Package will be revealed in the next couple of months. There were even suggestions that the Roadster could become the world's fastest accelerating road car. Do you think it stands a chance?
