US Tariff Hits Audi: 25% Import Tax Stops Vehicle Deliveries
by AutoExpert | 8 April, 2025
Audi has just hit a major roadblock in the US. In response to the new 25% import tariff on cars and parts, the company has made the bold move to halt all vehicle deliveries to the States. This decision comes right after the Trump administration imposed the tariffs, which has left Audi dealers with about two months' worth of inventory to get through. After that, things could get tricky.
The tariff announcement on April 2 affected a wide range of imports, including cars, and Audi confirmed that it’s putting a stop to shipments from its factories to the US for now. They’ve got around 37,000 cars already in the country, which should last for about 60 days. However, there are also some cars at import ports that won’t be going anywhere until things change.

This places Audi in a challenging situation. If the tariffs get rolled back or reduced, Audi could resume business as usual. But if not, they might have to rethink their strategy. One option could be using Volkswagen’s Tennessee production plant, but that would take time. The other, less attractive option could be raising prices to offset the extra costs from the tariffs, which wouldn’t do the brand any favors with customers in the short run.

Audi’s not alone in this, either. Jaguar Land Rover has also stopped imports to the US, facing the same issue. So, for now, it’s unclear where things will go.
