Toyota GR LH2 Brings Hydrogen Back To The Front At Le Mans
by AutoExpert | 11 June, 2025
Toyota isn’t just racing at Le Mans this year. The carmaker wants to show the world their ideas for the future of clean, fast cars. While most teams are chasing tenths of a second, Toyota Gazoo Racing is out here testing the future.
Their latest creation, the GR LH2 Racing Concept, is more than a sleek prototype. Specifically, it's a rolling experiment in hydrogen-fueled performance. Unveiled ahead of the 24-hour race, the GR LH2 picks up where last year’s GR H2 left off but brings a sharper look and a more serious attitude.

The livery’s gone clean and modern in white and blue, the body’s been sculpted with extra vents, a taller fin, and a more aggressive rear wing, and up front, the lighting gets a minimalist makeover. It’s roughly the same size as Toyota’s GR010 Hybrid but looks every bit the next evolution.

Underneath that bodywork, there’s a hydrogen-powered engine backed by a hybrid system. Toyota hasn’t spilled all the details yet, but the setup might share DNA with the proven GR010, which runs a twin-turbo V6 and a front electric motor. The twist here? It runs on hydrogen, a nod to Toyota’s belief that EVs aren’t the only answer in the race to go green.

Toyota’s thinking is simple: don’t rely on just one answer. They’re keeping their options open. Whether it’s hybrids, hydrogen, or even synthetic fuels, they’re exploring every path toward carbon-neutral mobility.

This year also marks 40 years since Toyota first hit the grid at Le Mans. While their GR010 Hybrids are back to chase another trophy, the GR LH2 is a glimpse at what’s next. Whether or not it takes a podium any time soon, it’s already won points for thinking ahead.
