Toyota C-HR Goes Electric With 290 Miles Of Range And Sharp New Looks

Now that it’s back on U.S. soil, the Toyota C-HR is taking a more focused approach. After a short-lived run as a gas-powered crossover, it’s making a bold return for 2026—this time as a fully electric compact SUV, rocking a fresh design and unexpectedly strong performance.

Toyota started over rather than simply updating the previous model. A 74.7-kWh battery and two electric motors with a combined output of 338 horsepower are used in place of a tiny four-cylinder engine in the new C-HR. Not only is that good for a crossover, but it's also really fast.

Additionally, Toyota claims that the range is impressive, at about 290 miles per charge. For most people, that is more than sufficient. If you do require a boost, a DC fast charger can recharge you from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. Better yet, it is compatible with the North American Charging Standard, so you can now use Tesla Superchargers. That's a huge convenience boost.

In terms of appearance, the Toyota C-HR has visibly improved. A full-width light bar on the back connects the boomerang-style headlights and the sleek upper grille. The base model's wheels are 18 inches, but the higher-trim XSE sports a pair of angular-looking 20s.

Toyota's interior design is obviously aiming for a tech-forward aesthetic. The newest multimedia system is operating on a huge 14-inch touchscreen in the middle. Built-in Wi-Fi and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. And what about the driver's screen? Clean, fully digital, and simple to read. It has the feel of something you would anticipate from a car that costs a lot more money.

It also comes with all the latest driver-assistance features, of course. As standard, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, emergency braking, and more. This technology is reliable and practical in day-to-day use.

Although the price is not yet official, it is said to start at about $30,000. With its performance, range, and features, the new C-HR might become one of the more reasonably priced electric crossovers on the market if that holds true.

The new Toyota C-HR feels like it has a purpose at last, and it's quick and efficient. It may be time to give this one another look if you previously dismissed it.
