Toyota Says the RAV4 Will Be Harder To Buy In 2026
by AutoExpert | 9 February, 2026
The Toyota RAV4 remains the undisputed sales champ in the U.S., with nearly 480,000 units sold in 2025. This was supposed to be a calm year ahead of a full redesign, but demand never backed off. Now that the next-generation RAV4 is approaching, Toyota is facing a familiar problem: changeover slowdown.
Dealers have already been told to expect limited 2026 Toyota RAV4 inventory, especially early on, as production shifts to the new XA60 generation.

Toyota was straight about it. At meetings during the 2026 NADA Show, executives told dealers to plan for fewer RAV4s and adjust expectations. Big redesigns almost always bring a temporary sales dip, and this one won’t be an exception.

Rather than scrambling for inventory that won’t exist, Toyota is encouraging dealers to steer shoppers toward other models. That means pickups, sedans, and crossovers that sit near the RAV4 in size or price, even if they don’t have the same loyal following.

Models like the Crown, Crown Signia, and Toyota’s growing EV lineup were highlighted as vehicles that could benefit from the shift. The point isn’t to fill the RAV4’s shoes, but to make sure customers don’t walk out empty-handed when it’s not available.
