The VW Lamando L Gets A Refined Update—Here’s What’s New

For the past few years, the VW Lamando L has served as a stylish alternative to the more traditional Sagitar (China’s version of the Jetta). Now, after three years on the market, VW has given it a light refresh. Still exclusive to China, the updated Lamando L brings a few subtle changes that help it stand out just a bit more—enough to keep things fresh without losing its original charm.
The grille is the most important modification at front. Gone is the soft, curvy shape of the original model, replaced with something bolder and sharper, with glossy black plastic and silver accents. Though the headlights have been shortened and sharpened, giving the front end a more modern, concentrated appearance, the famous lighted VW emblem and LED light bar remain there.

The form remains essentially the same along with new 16- and 17-inch wheels to pick from, so you may personalize it just a bit more. Changes are more obvious from the rear. The taills and bumper have been rebuilt; the new black plastic lower part gives the sportier finish. The rear light bar is still there.
Though just 7 mm longer, the Lamando L is essentially the same in terms of dimension; the entire length comes to 4,791 mm. Its width and height remain the same; its wheelbase remains the same as well.

Under the hood, there’s a modest but welcome bump in power. The 1.5-liter turbocharged engine now puts out 158 horsepower—up by 10 horses from before—paired with VW’s slick seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. It’s not a game-changer, but it should keep the drive feeling smooth, responsive, and efficient.
Though we haven't yet seen the revised inside, we should expect it to remain somewhat comparable to the current one. That results in a 10-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12-inch infotainment display, a Beats sound system, and several other excellent accents such ambient lighting and a sunroof.

While the updated VW Lamando L brings some nice tweaks that make it look and feel a little more refined, it doesn’t exactly rewrite the playbook. It’s still very much a car built with the Chinese market in mind, offering a solid mix of style, tech, and practicality.
