The New Aygo X Is the Best-Looking Toyota You’ll See Under £25k

Toyota’s smallest crossover just got a big upgrade. The Aygo X has officially entered its next chapter with a mid-cycle refresh that brings hybrid power, sharper styling, and, for the first time, a sporty GR Sport trim.
Toyota is the first automaker to offer a full hybrid in its class, pulling tech from the larger Yaris and ditching the old 1.0-liter three-cylinder entirely. In its place is a new 1.5-liter self-charging hybrid setup, delivering a healthy 114 horsepower through an e-CVT gearbox. That’s a 43-horsepower jump over the outgoing model and enough to get from 0 to 62 mph in under 10 seconds.

CO₂ emissions drop to just 86 g/km, making it the cleanest non-plug-in car on sale in Europe today. For Toyota, that low-emissions rating does more than help the planet—it gives the company regulatory breathing room to keep selling fun ICE-powered GR models in markets like the UK and Europe.
The Aygo X still rides on Toyota’s GA-B platform, shared with the Yaris and Yaris Cross. To make room for the larger engine, Toyota stretched the front overhang by 76 mm, bringing the total length to 3,776 mm. The wheelbase, however, remains unchanged.

Visually, the Toyota Aygo X gets a refresh with a more aggressive front end. There’s a wider grille, reworked bumper and fenders, a new trim piece connecting the headlights, and updated mirror caps with relocated turn signals. New color options round out the exterior updates.
Inside, Toyota adds a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, new USB-C ports, and updated climate controls. Higher trims should still feature a 9-inch infotainment screen with a slightly improved interface. The interior also goes fully animal-free, using recycled materials throughout.

Comfort and refinement were also part of the update. Toyota has added sound-deadening materials under the dash and hood, refined the exhaust system, and upgraded insulation in higher-spec versions with thicker glass and more body soundproofing.
The headline grabber is the new GR Sport trim. It uses the same powertrain, but it does get a more playful setup. With 18-inch alloys, retuned suspension, sharper steering, and sporty design cues like a honeycomb grille, faux intakes, and GR logos, it adds some visual punch and a bit more edge to the driving experience. There’s even a signature Mustard bi-tone paint with a black hood exclusive to this trim.

The updated Toyota Aygo X hits the UK and European markets at the end of the year. Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but expect it to come in under the Yaris Hybrid, which currently starts at £23,445.
