The 2026 2026 Land Rover Defender Still Packs A 5.0 V8

Land Rover has given the Defender a quiet refresh for 2026. Blink and you might miss it! What really stands out isn’t the slightly tweaked headlights or the new screen inside. It’s what’s still under the hood: the aging but beloved 5.0-liter supercharged V8.
The Defender V8 is still here, holding its ground while the rest of the lineup moves on. Most JLR models have traded tradition for newer, cleaner engines, but the Defender sticks with its long-running 5.0-liter supercharged V8. First launched in 2009 and originally developed in the 1990s, it’s one of the last of its kind, and probably not around for much longer.

It’ll soon share showroom space with the new twin-turbo Defender Octa, but for now, the supercharged V8 is still available, at least in some markets. U.S. specs haven’t been confirmed yet, but we’ve reached out to Land Rover for clarity.

As for the rest of the updates, they’re minimal. The 2026 Land Rover Defender gets a slight headlight redesign, smoked taillights, new trim options, updated wheels, and a larger 13.1-inch infotainment screen replacing the old 11.4-inch unit. Nothing dramatic, but enough to keep things fresh.

Land Rover has also added its Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control system, which adjusts your speed based on terrain to make trail driving more relaxed. In the Defender 130, you’ll also find a built-in air compressor for refilling tires after a day in the dirt.

The updated 2026 Land Rover Defender is already available in Europe, but U.S. availability will take a little longer. That said, even with more lenient emissions rules stateside, the days of the supercharged V8 are clearly numbered. If you’ve ever dreamed of owning one, now might be your last shot.
