The 2025 VW ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice Is A Stylish Throwback With 322 HP

Before Volkswagen makes its full leap into the future with its upcoming electric GTI lineup, it decided to have a little fun with the present. Meet the new VW ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice—a vibrant, nostalgia-infused special edition that brings a retro twist to the brand’s latest electric hatchback.
This car is more than just a flashy paint job. It’s a heartfelt nod to the original 1990 VW Golf Fire and Ice, a fashion-forward version of the iconic Golf that was co-created with designer Willy Bogner. That model turned out to be a surprise hit, selling over 16,000 units—well beyond VW’s expectations at the time. Now, the company is channeling that same spirit into the electric age.

The new VW ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice trades the concept’s dazzling finish for a deep Ultra Violet Metallic coat. It’s still full of personality, though, with transparent matte graphics on the C-pillars, a fiery red accent strip on the roof, and custom badging along the sides. The bold 20-inch alloy wheels feature body-colored accents that complete the head-turning look. It’s playful and unmistakably unique.

Inside, the sense of fun continues. The cabin gets a split personality, with the driver’s side dressed in Fire Red and the passenger side cooled down in soft blue. The jacket zipper-style trim from the concept makes a return, though this time it's just for show. Other details like custom puddle lights and contrast stitching bring an extra layer of flair to the experience.

Underneath all this style, you’ll find the same powertrain as the standard ID.3 GTX. Depending on the version, the Fire+Ice puts out either 282 or 322 horsepower. The more powerful model can zip from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. It’s not quite as quick as the gas-powered Golf R, but it still offers more than enough kick for everyday thrills.

Beyond performance, this VW ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice edition is well equipped with everything from adaptive suspension to a high-end Harman Kardon sound system. There’s also an augmented reality head-up display and advanced driver assistance tech to round out the package. The 79 kWh battery delivers up to 591 kilometers of range and supports fast charging so you’re not stuck waiting too long between drives.

Only 1,990 units of the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice will be built, a deliberate reference to the year that inspired it. Pricing in Germany starts at just over €56,000, which is a fair bit more than the regular GTX, but it’s clear this isn’t just any ID.3. If you grew up loving quirky special editions or just want something electric with a bit more soul, this one might speak to you.
