The 2025 Nissan Leaf Is Just Smarter In Every Way
by AutoExpert | 11 June, 2025
The next-generation 2025 Nissan Leaf is almost here, and ahead of its full reveal later this month, we’re already getting a clear picture of what’s changed.
Even though power output stays at 214 horsepower, torque gets a slight bump to 261 lb-ft, up from 250. Moreover, the entire powertrain is now 10 percent smaller, which frees up space under the hood. That extra room allowed Nissan to relocate the HVAC system from behind the dashboard, making the cabin feel roomier.

Big changes also happen at the rear. The 2025 Nissan Leaf trades its old torsion beam suspension for a multi-link setup, promising better ride comfort and sharper handling. This upgrade brings the Leaf more in line with newer EVs, including Nissan’s upcoming electric Micra, which shares underpinnings with the Renault 5.

Steering has been revised too. Nissan says the rack-mounted electric power steering system has been recalibrated for better maneuverability. The turning radius drops slightly to 17.3 feet, even with the switch to larger 19-inch wheels. Lateral stiffness has also increased by 66 percent, and the powertrain is now quieter and smoother. At low speeds, the cabin is two decibels quieter than before.

Another major update comes in the form of a new battery system. Gone is the air-cooled pack; in its place is a liquid-cooled battery with thermal recovery. Heat from the onboard charger is now reused to warm the battery in colder weather, improving both performance and range. Nissan has previously claimed the updated charging system can add up to 155 miles of range in just 14 minutes.

Full details will be revealed in the coming weeks, with the new 2025 Nissan Leaf set to hit the market later this year.
