You are most probably thinking of ketchup or baby food when you hear the word, Heinz. Or maybe you somehow remember Teresa Heinz, John Kerry's wife. Nevertheless, from now one, you will think of 1938 Phantom Corsair, one of the most special cars that have been ever built.

The son of the famous businessman HJ Heinz, Rust Heinz invented the Phantom Corsair. After having graduated from Yale, in the 30s, he went against his family who wanted him to be an architect and redirected his efforts to auto projection, which was his passion. He moved to the West Coast and became partners with Bohman & Schwartz in order to build a completely new car, based on the Cord 810 chassis. Heinz was the author of the main design of the car, which can easily be associated with a tear.

The work resulted in a 1930 standard wonder, which continues to impress even nowadays. The body of the car is formed of aluminum panels, fixed on the tubular frame. The car starts as a nose and graciously ends into an almost invisible tale in the back. The lights, the windshield, and the lateral windows are compact, while the wheels add an aerodynamic air to the whole image. The doors of the car have no handles, the car being possible to be entered through hidden buttons, in the back window.

The interior is just as impressive as the exterior features. You can stretch the front seat at five feet and the windshield is secured by three layers. The backseat was meant for 2 persons, while the practice showed that only one could fit in normally. The passengers could have enjoyed product containers and drinks in the backseat, while a special system announced the driver through an alert if any of the doors were open.
Heinz was planning to sell that car's copies for 14 700 dollars, which is approximately 250 000 dollars nowadays. He tragically passed away in a car accident in 1939 and his dream passed away along with him. Corsair has been restored to its original fame and can be now admired in the National Harrar Automotive
