Teramont Pro Shows How Volkswagen Is Reinventing The Atlas

SAIC Volkswagen has just revealed the Teramont Pro in China, and it’s worth checking out since it seems to be a preview of the redesigned Atlas. If this is the case, we can expect a larger and more high-tech seven-seat crossover to hit the market.
Starting with the design, the Volkswagen Teramont Pro has a sleeker look, featuring a fully enclosed grille flanked by big headlights. Meanwhile, the front fascia has a sporty vibe.

The bodywork flows smoothly toward the back, with flush door handles and a sharp character line. The greenhouse has also undergone an update, and the rear boasts a spoiler and a light bar that accentuates the pixel-like taillights.
As for the dimensions, the Volkswagen Teramont Pro has grown compared to the previous Atlas. It now measures 203.1 inches (5,158 mm) long, 78.4 inches (1,991 mm) wide, and 70.4 inches (1,788 mm) tall. That’s an extra 2.4 inches (61 mm) in length, with slight increases in width and height.

Inside, we can spot a digital instrument cluster, a floating infotainment screen, and a front passenger display. Up to three additional screens could potentially equip the model, suggesting a rear-seat entertainment system for passengers.
For the tech-savvy, there’s a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a 30-color ambient lighting system. There’s also a fragrance diffuser and a “queen” front passenger seat, which offers an electric footrest, massage, and ventilation features. The rear passengers also get rear climate controls and sunshades, plus there’s a floating center console with a wireless smartphone charger.

On the performance side, the Volkswagen Teramont Pro is powered by a fifth-gen EA888 engine, which has been significantly updated to deliver better responsiveness and lower emissions. The engine now runs on the Miller cycle, uses a 500-bar ultra-high-pressure fuel system, and has improved combustion efficiency. Volkswagen also improved the turbocharger and exhaust purification system and strengthened the engine’s moving parts to reduce noise and increase durability.
The power output is 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is an upgrade of 51 hp and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm) compared to the previous model. For comparison, the US-spec Atlas has a fourth-gen EA888 engine with slightly lower numbers: 269 hp and 273 lb-ft.

The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system, helping the Teramont Pro go from 0 to 62 mph in just 7.6 seconds.
Volkswagen also packed in some advanced tech features, including DCC adaptive chassis control and the IQ. Pilot-assisted driving system. This L2+ semi-autonomous driving system enhances driving comfort, while the “parking butler” remote parking assist makes it easier to park in tight spaces.
