Swarovski, AI, And E Ink: Continental’s CES 2025 Cockpit Redefines Luxury

The 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas gave us a glimpse of how wild car interiors are about to get—and it might be happening sooner than you’d think.
One of the biggest eye-catchers was Continental’s Emotional Cockpit, a mix of high-tech displays and luxury materials. They even teamed up with Swarovski Mobility to frame screens in cut crystal.

At the heart of the setup is a floating 12.3-inch TFT display, tucked beneath a clear crystal surface. It acts as the main control hub for both the driver and front passenger. To make visuals pop, it uses full-array local dimming (FALD)—a trick borrowed from high-end LED TVs—that adjusts backlighting in different zones for deeper blacks and sharper contrast.
There’s also a smaller 3.5-inch Widget Crystal built into the dash, serving as an interactive hub for an AI assistant. It displays things like weather updates and navigation info, all powered by micro-LED technology—which, while super bright and crisp, is still a pricey feature even in home electronics.
Then there’s Continental’s E Ink display, which ditches traditional backlit screens in favor of ePaper technology—like what you’d find in a Kindle. It’s a 1.3-meter-wide, ultra-thin strip stretching across the dashboard, designed for personalization and key driving info. Right now, it’s black and white, but a full-color version is in the works.
The biggest benefit is that it uses minimal power. Unlike LED screens that need constant energy, E Ink only draws power when changing images. Once set, it stays visible indefinitely—though in low light, it might need some help from ambient illumination.
Continental sees all of this as part of a bigger shift toward emotionally connected interiors, where technology enhances the bond between a driver and their car. Judging by what we saw at CES 2025, that future isn’t far off.
