Ruf CTR3 Evo: A 3.8-Liter Engine Marvel with Porsche-Inspired Design

First launched in 2007, the Ruf CTR3, a mid-engine supercar inspired by the Cayman, took the automotive world by storm. An enhanced version, the CTR3 Clubsport, followed in 2012. Now, the German tuner Ruf Automobile is back with the CTR3 Evo, a thrilling iteration unveiled at the 2023 Monterey Car Week, boasting style, chassis, and performance upgrades.

The CTR3 Evo maintains its Porsche styling credentials but exhibits a reimagined bodywork constructed from lightweight Kevlar composite. The front end still resonates with the tuned Porsche 997, while the rear has been entirely redesigned. The old Cayman taillights are replaced with more conventional round units, and an automatically-deploying rear wing adds a dynamic flair. Underneath, a large carbon-fiber diffuser surrounds the quad exhaust pipes, similar to previous CTR3 models. Notably, there's no rear windscreen, as this space is occupied by a vented engine cover.

Inside, the CTR3 Evo features a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with the possibility of adding a manual to the wish list.

The supercar's heart, a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine, produces a staggering 790 HP and 730 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with dry-sump lubrication and direct fuel injection, its output figures outshine any factory-spec 911 variant. While Ruf hasn't disclosed specific performance upgrades, it's certain that the new supercar surpasses its predecessor, the CTR3 Clubsport, in speed. The Clubsport achieved 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and reached a top speed of 236 mph.

Braking power is provided by carbon-ceramic brakes, measuring 15 inches in diameter and featuring yellow six-piston calipers. The suspension setup consists of McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link system with horizontally opposed coilovers in the rear.

Reported by Autocar, the Ruf CTR3 Evo starts at $725,000. Given the history of its predecessors, this new Ruf supercar may well be a limited production.
