Rivian And Volkswagen Reveal Plans For Next-Gen Digital Car Platform
by AutoExpert | 14 November, 2025
Volkswagen is accelerating its transition to electric cars, with a significant portion of the work now focused on software development. The company has joined forces with Rivian to build an all-new digital platform that will sit underneath the next generation of VW Group models.
The two brands set up a joint venture last year to create a software-defined vehicle (SDV) system—basically a tech foundation that lets future Volkswagens and Audis run smarter, update faster, and feel more like modern devices than old-school cars.

VW says the prototypes using this new setup will hit the road for testing in early 2026. One of them will be the ID. Every1, a small electric concept that gives us a first look at an upcoming budget EV.

The production version of the ID. Every1 is expected in 2027 with a starting price of about €20,000, making it one of VW’s most affordable electric cars. It will also be the first model to utilize the new software platform developed in collaboration with Rivian—a significant milestone for both companies.
