Peugeot Brings Back The GTi With The Electric e-208 GTi

Peugeot is bringing the GTi badge back, except now it’s attached to an electric hatchback instead of a noisy little gasoline engine. The production e-208 GTi will make its full debut on June 12, almost exactly one year after the concept first appeared during the Le Mans weekend.
From the first images, Peugeot stayed very close to the concept. The e-208 GTi gets red accents around the grille and badges, widened fenders, black mirrors, large seven-spoke wheels, and a much more aggressive rear bumper and spoiler setup. It still has the compact, slightly angry look people expect from a proper hot hatch.

Inside, Peugeot avoided turning the cabin into a futuristic tech experiment. There are sports seats with red center stripes, red stitching throughout the interior, GTi logos on the steering wheel, and custom graphics for the displays. The whole thing feels more focused on driving.

The concept already previewed most of the important numbers. Power came from a front-mounted electric motor producing 276 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 54 kWh battery. Peugeot claimed 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds along with a limited-slip differential, which should help give the little hatch some real personality through corners.

Charging performance looks decent, too. The battery can reportedly go from 20 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes with 100 kW DC fast charging, while range is expected to be between 217 and 233 miles. The bigger question now is whether Peugeot managed to capture the fun, slightly mischievous feeling older GTi models were known for.
