Nissan Navara Gains Edge With Nismo Version, Set To Compete With Ford Ranger Raptor

Nissan is pushing ahead with the next-generation Navara. This new version will share its ladder-frame platform with the Mitsubishi Triton, a move aligned with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's shared resources. However, Andrew Humberstone, managing director of Nissan Oceania, says Nissan is determined to ensure the Navara stands out on its own, with significant changes planned to give it a distinct identity.
Despite the platform-sharing, Humberstone emphasized that the Nissan Navara will offer more than just a rebadged Triton. The goal is to make the Navara in line with Nissan's brand expectations, suggesting a level of differentiation beyond typical badge-engineered tweaks.

The new Nissan Navara is expected to adopt the Triton's leaf-spring rear suspension, which is a shift from the previous Navara's coil-spring setup. It will also focus on maintaining strong towing and payload capacities to stay competitive with models like the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger. The engine lineup could include the Triton’s 2.4-liter turbodiesel, which produces 201 hp, ensuring the Navara stays rooted in its diesel power tradition.
Additionally, Nissan is likely to offer an electrified version, whether as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, to meet stricter emissions standards. The most exciting possibility is a high-performance Nismo version, potentially taking on the Ford Ranger Raptor with a V6 engine and improved off-road capabilities. While the exact debut date is unclear, the next-gen Nissan Navara is expected to arrive by March 2027.
