Nissan Just Built the Ultimate Frontier for Life Off the Grid

The Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is already the kind of truck that makes you think about dirt roads, campsites, and places where cell service disappears. This one simply takes that idea to its logical extreme.
Called the Frontier Ultimate Build2, the one-off overland rig was created by Nissan and AllDogs Offroad Coop for Overland Expo West. And, unlike some concept trucks that look great but seem too polished to ever leave the pavement, this one appears genuinely ready to head deep into the backcountry.

The upgrades start with the essentials. A heavy-duty front bumper houses integrated recovery points and a 9,500-pound ComeUp winch, while auxiliary lights, Nismo rock sliders, and Black Rhino wheels wrapped in Nokian all-terrain tires round out the exterior. In the bed sits a Tune Outdoor M1L camper with a pop-up roof, over six feet of standing room, and a sleeping platform for two. Impressively, the camper weighs as little as 322 pounds.

Nissan also added the kind of details seasoned overlanders appreciate: Battle Born batteries, a Midland radio, an ARB onboard air system, and even an outdoor shower with a water heater. Underneath, AllDogs Offroad fitted upgraded coil and leaf springs; Fox Performance Elite coilovers and rear shocks; heavy-duty shackles; high-clearance upper control arms; and extended stainless steel brake lines.

Power comes from the standard 3.8-liter V6, producing 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. The Nissan Frontier Ultimate Build2 makes its debut at Overland Expo West before touring other events and eventually heading to Bring a Trailer this fall, where it will be auctioned off to benefit the Overland Expo Foundation.
