The 2026 Nissan Caravan Debuts With Premium GX Outdoor Black Edition And Sotoasobi Package
by AutoExpert | 20 July, 2025
The Nissan Caravan isn’t exactly new, but it’s still kicking—and for 2026, it’s getting a refresh aimed at making it more comfortable, more practical, and a bit more fun, especially for folks with an eye for the outdoors.
There are no major changes on the outside, but Nissan has introduced a new trim called the Premium GX Outdoor Black Edition. It gives the Caravan a slightly tougher look with black accents on the grille, bumpers, mirrors, and door handles. It’s not a huge transformation, but it does give the van a little more presence.

What really adds personality is the optional Sotoasobi Package, inspired by earlier adventure-ready X-Trail builds. It comes with a matte satin black hood wrap to help guard against rock chips, bolt-on fender flares from JAOS, and a unique emblem on the front doors. Nissan says this look will start showing up on more of their models in the future, so this package may be setting the tone for a wider trend.
Also joining the lineup is the Caravan Autech Line, which keeps things simple but adds some nice touches like 15-inch alloy wheels and waterproof upholstery. While it doesn’t include the flashier elements from the full Autech version, like the fancy grille or LED lighting, buyers can add a rear spoiler and the Black Package to round out the look.

Inside, all versions of the Nissan Caravan now come with redesigned front seats featuring memory foam and improved spinal support. It’s a small but welcome upgrade. Tech gets a bump too, with a larger 9-inch navigation display and updated safety features, including Nissan’s Intelligent Cruise Control.
Mechanically, the Caravan sticks with what it knows. You still get a ladder-frame chassis and two engine options: a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 129 horsepower or a 2.5-liter diesel from Mitsubishi that offers 130 horsepower and a healthy amount of torque. Both are paired with a seven-speed automatic and are available in either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive.

The 2026 Nissan Caravan goes on sale in Japan starting August 25, with pricing ranging from around 2.7 to 5.6 million yen, or roughly 18,200 to 37,900 US dollars. The Sotoasobi Package is available as an add-on for about 1,300 dollars. Later this fall, Nissan will also update the MyRoom camper variant, giving it similar upgrades.
While the Caravan’s been around since 2011—and had facelifts in 2017 and 2021—it’s still going strong. Not bad for a van that refuses to fade quietly into the background.
