The new Tesla Model Y, an entry-level crossover, will be presented next year. The model will be situated below Model X and will be built based on the electric sedan Model 3.

The novelty will get doors opening upwards. Earlier, Tesla's head Elon Musk called such mechanism wings of a falcon. For the first time, such doors were demonstrated on Model X.

According to unofficial data, the new model will receive a battery pack with a capacity of about 70 kW. The minimum power reserve for the new electric crossover will be enough for approximately 370 km.

Tesla Model Y will be equipped with a new generation of autonomous control systems. The technology will include 8 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a radar. The prices for the novelty haven't been announced yet. Most likely, the prices for the entry-level crossover will be several thousand dollars higher than the one of a Model 3 sedan, the cost of which is of around $35 000. According to Tesla's forecasts, Model Y may become the new best selling model of the American brand.

As for Model 3, its sales should begin in the summer of this year. The premiere of the electric sedan took place in Los Angeles in early April last year. The youngest model received a design in the style of the flagship Model S. It has a five-seat cabin and a minimalistic interior without a dashboard, but with a huge display in the center console.

The body of Model 3 is made primarily of steel, although the engineers did not completely abandon the alloy materials. The autonomy of the basic Model 3 will be 340 km, followed later by a version with a battery capacity of 80 kW-h, increasing the autonomy to 480 km. The dynamic characteristics of the future car are also a mystery, but Musk promised that even the entry-level version will be able to accelerate to 100 km / h in less than 6 seconds.
