New Toyota RAV4 Brings Plug-In Speed, GR Style, And EV Range To Europe

Toyota’s new-generation RAV4 has finally landed for the European market, and this time, it’s going all-in on hybrid power. After more than 15 million units sold globally since its debut in 1994, the RAV4 is stepping into a cleaner, more tech-savvy future. It’s now hybrid-only, packs smarter software, and even throws in a GR Sport version for those wanting a bit more edge.
Visually, the RAV4 gets a modern update with sharper lines, sculpted shapes, and aggressive new touches. Up front, you’ll notice C-shaped LED headlights, a bold honeycomb grille, and fresh, slim taillights out back. Black-painted roof panels and 20-inch black wheels complete the sportier vibe, and if you go for the GR Sport model, you’ll get wider tires, stiffer rear suspension, and sharper steering.

Under the skin, there are four hybrid setups to choose from—two standard hybrid versions (HEV) and two plug-in hybrid options (PHEV), with either front- or all-wheel drive. The HEVs make between 183 and 191 horsepower, while the PHEVs up the ante to 268 and 304 hp, depending on the drivetrain. The quickest setup can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.
PHEV versions come with a 22.7 kWh battery offering up to 100 km of all-electric driving. You can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes using a fast charger or fully recharge in around three hours on an 11 kW AC setup.

Inside, the tech upgrade is clear. Toyota’s new Arene software platform makes its first appearance here, powering a 12.9-inch central screen and managing all the safety and multimedia systems. There’s also a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster, plus voice control for things like temperature and volume.

Safety tech has taken a solid step forward too. Features like forward cross-traffic alert, active blind spot warnings, enhanced adaptive cruise control with lane-change assist, and an upgraded pre-collision system are all on board. There’s even remote parking, a 360-degree camera with 3D view, and a clever "invisible hood" feature that shows what’s directly under the front of the car—perfect for tricky parking or trail driving.
Toyota hasn’t dropped official pricing for the European market yet, but the new RAV4 is set to go on sale in the second half of the year.
