Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R Debuts With Super Select II 4WD And A Rugged Look

Mitsubishi has just beefed up its Triton lineup in Australia by introducing the GLX-R trim. What’s cool about this new version? Well, it offers a more advanced 4WD system without pushing buyers into the higher-spec models, making it a more affordable option for off-road enthusiasts.

Now, let’s be clear—it’s based on the GLX trim, so it doesn’t come with all the fancy chrome touches up front or those high-end headlights. However, it still looks pretty slick, rolling on black 18-inch wheels with a matching black sports bar at the rear. To keep it a bit different from the other models, Mitsubishi skipped the side step, but it still works.

Inside, the GLX-R sticks to a simple yet stylish black cloth interior with silver stitching. You get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, carpeted floors, and Mitsubishi’s 9-inch infotainment system loaded with a bunch of driver-assist features. Plus, there’s this cool new Tailgate Assist feature that makes opening and closing the tailgate smoother and easier—thanks to the dual struts.

The Australian Triton range uses the same 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine under the hood. That’s good for 201 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. But the real news here is that Mitsubishi has added its Super Select II 4WD system, which used to only come on the fancier GLS and GSR trims.

This means better off-road capabilities with locking rear and center differentials, plus drive modes for all kinds of terrain. As for price, the Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R will set you back about AU$56,740 (roughly US$39,175).
