Mercedes-AMG ’s Electric Revolution: High-Performance Supercar Inspired By Vision One-Eleven

Mercedes-AMG is preparing to step into the electric supercar game, taking cues from last year’s Vision One-Eleven concept. Mercedes-AMG positions this upcoming model, set to debut later this decade, as a spiritual successor to the 2013 SLS Electric Drive, but with a far larger production run. The SLS Electric Drive had a limited production run of just nine units, whereas this new all-electric supercar will be more widely available—albeit still exclusive.

AMG's push into electrification is serious business. AMG has already introduced electrified versions of the EQE and EQS models, but this supercar aims to reinforce AMG's performance legacy in the electric era. Despite keeping some of its more profitable gas-powered models alive, AMG CEO Michael Schiebe has been clear: the future is electric.

“We are going all-electric,” Schiebe said. This new machine will be powered by revolutionary electric motors from Yasa, a British company that Mercedes acquired in 2021. These motors are much smaller and lighter than traditional electric motors, weighing just 24 kg, but capable of delivering up to 489 horsepower. That’s about twice the power-to-weight ratio of what you typically see in today’s high-performance EVs. Yasa's tech is already in use in hypercars like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and Koenigsegg Regera, so AMG’s new electric supercar is set to have serious power under the hood.

AMG plans to offer various configurations of this motor tech, including a quad-motor setup, ensuring the new electric supercar can go toe-to-toe with some of the fastest cars on the road. The company is also working on lightweight battery solutions developed in collaboration with U.S.-based battery firm Sila. This will allow the new AMG supercar to deliver not just blistering speed but also extended range and ultra-fast charging. But don’t think AMG is ditching its roots completely.

Schiebe emphasized that AMG’s famous "one man, one engine" mantra will still play a role, even in the electric era. AMG is intent on carrying its craftsmanship forward, despite the shift to electric powertrains. The new electric supercar will be AMG’s answer to rivals like Porsche’s Mission X and Alfa Romeo’s next-gen supercars. It’s not just about keeping up—it’s about defining what performance means in the EV age.
