McLaren Celebrates 1,000 F1 Races With The Artura 1000GP

This weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix carries extra meaning for McLaren. The team is about to hit its 1,000th appearance in Formula 1, a number very few outfits in the sport’s history have ever reached. To mark the occasion, McLaren’s personalization department has cooked up a special version of the Artura called the 1000GP.
Production is capped at just ten cars, each finished in colors and graphics inspired by the Monaco-spec MCL40 racers driven by Norris and Piastri.

The design avoids going full tribute-car cliché, though. Small papaya details appear across the bodywork, including the mirrors, rear sections, splitter, and diffuser, while a large “1000GP” graphic stretches across the front.

The cabin gets its own commemorative touches too, including a papaya-colored plaque referencing the milestone. It’s the sort of detail that probably matters more to collectors than outright performance figures, especially with production numbers this low.

Mechanically, nothing changes, which is hardly disappointing. The Artura still combines a twin-turbocharged V6 with electric assistance for a total of 690 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. McLaren claims a 0-62 mph sprint in three seconds and a top speed of 205 mph. There’s also enough battery capacity for roughly 21 miles of electric driving, though it’s safe to assume most owners will be far more interested in hearing the V6 wake up.

More than anything, this car works as a reminder of how deeply tied McLaren still is to Formula 1. A thousand starts later, the company continues finding ways to blur the line between its racing program and the cars sitting in customer garages.
