Maserati Unveils Electrifying Grancabrio Folgore

Maserati has revealed some details on the upcoming Grancabrio Folgore, an electrified GT with a flexible top. To start with, the Folgore gets its three electric motors from the hard-roofed Maserati Granturismo Folgore instead of its combustion-engined sibling's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6.

The back houses two of them, while the front axle houses one. Each of them delivers an impressive 402 horsepower, despite their estimated total outputs of 751 bhp and 996 lb ft. The reason for this is because the 83 kWh usable battery has a maximum discharge capacity of 805 horsepower.

Maserati anticipates an increase in this restriction as battery technology advances and the vehicle undergoes a makeover. Although Maserati has not yet revealed the Grancabrio Folgore's official range, they have said that it should be comparable to the electric Granturismo's 280-mile range. The construction of the Grancabrio Folgore is strengthened around the sills and the rear tray to maintain its high ride quality. The engineering leader for the GT and Quattroporte lines, Davide Danesin, said that the firm put comfort ahead of agility when designing the cabrio.

He explained to Autocar that Grancabrio customers are distinct from GT customers. Those who purchase Grancabrios aren't often serious racecar enthusiasts; rather, they're interested in finding a new way to appreciate the brand's products. What they really want is a status symbol that will allow them to live freely in a nice place. Grancabrio and coupé straight-line performance are almost comparable, despite the latter's reduced weight due to the former's more steel.

Just 0.1 second slower than the Granturismo Folgore, it takes 2.8 seconds to complete the 0-62mph sprint. Plus, it's 0.4 seconds faster than the only other electric drop-top GT arriving in the UK next year, the dual-motor MG Cyberster. The Folgore's 'inverted' surface replaces the gasoline-powered version's slatted grille. In other words, for every gas-powered vehicle, there is a free space on the electric vehicle's grille, and the inverse is also true. When asked why he didn't want a "faceless" automobile, Maserati design boss Klaus Busse said he decided to rethink the grille instead of going flat.

According to him, "whether it's the Folgore, Granturismo [ICE], or Grecale," you'll get a genuine Maserati appearance. At speeds of up to 31mph, the Grancabrio Folgore's folding fabric lid may be lifted or lowered in only 14 seconds, much like the fuel vehicle. As an accessory, you get a neck warmer with three heat settings as standard. You can add a wind deflector as an accessory to reduce turbulence over the passengers. Maserati UK has not yet announced the official price, but we anticipate it to start around £185,000.
