Marquis Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban Might Be Spinning: The Unveiling of DS 7 Vauban

DS Automobiles, which gained notoriety for providing the armored DS 7 Élysée to the French President, has taken a deep dive into the history books with its newest limited release—DS 7 Vauban. Named after the 17th-century French military engineer Marquis Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, known for revolutionizing fortress architecture, the new SUV stands as a testament to both modern luxury and historic significance.

Armor Upgraded, Size Unchanged

Despite the enormity of the presidential DS 7 Élysée, which has a 7.9-inch longer wheelbase than standard models, the DS 7 Vauban adheres to standard dimensions. However, the armor is anything but standard. The collaboration between WELP Group and DS Automobiles has led to an SUV with VPAM 4-level protection, thanks to Aramids fiber in vulnerable spots and safety glass designed to resist both impact and heat.

Safety and Refinement: A Double Act

The feature list is extensive: owners can opt for a siren, an intercom system, fire extinguishers, and closed-circuit ventilation. Beyond these necessities, DS offers an array of personalization kits that include a range of exterior colors and interior stitching options, alongside reading lights, flag holders, and extra USB slots. All these were closely scrutinized by upholsterers to ensure unparalleled refinement.

Performance Unaltered, But Affected?

Under the hood, the DS 7 Vauban will continue to sport a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine, good for 300 HP and 390 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 13.2 kWh battery. DS Performance does offer a 360 HP alternative, but it was not chosen for this particular model due to its lowered suspension. Given the additional armor weight, performance and range metrics are still up in the air.

DS 7 Vauban

Limited, And Likely Expensive

While exact pricing details have yet to be revealed, given its limited production run, this model is set to become the priciest DS 7 in the lineup. It will be available from April 2024, with its features engineered at WELP in Herimoncourt, just a stone's throw from the DS 7's production hub at Stellantis' factory in Mulhouse.

The DS 7 Vauban epitomizes a fascinating blend of history, luxury, and modern technology. While Marquis Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban may or may not be rolling in his grave, one thing is certain: this DS 7 is poised to set its own modern standards.
