Major Recall Alert: Over 142,000 Ram Pickups with Faulty Turn Signals

In a significant development for truck owners, over 142,000 Ram pickups have been flagged for a recall due to a malfunction in their turn signal systems. This recall predominantly affects the self-canceling feature of the turn signals, a key safety component in these vehicles.

The models in question include the 2023 Ram 1500 Classic, with over 23,000 units built from September 19, 2022, to June 2, 2023, facing this issue. Additionally, around 6,007 units of the 2023 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis assembled between June 28, 2022, and July 21, 2023, are also included.

Yet, there's more! The 2023 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis models, plus another 73,739 units of the 2023-2024 Ram 2500, with an extra 13,433 units of the 2023-2024 Ram 4500/5500 Cab Chassis, and 25,799 units of the 2023-2024 Ram 3500 have been recalled, as they all have been assembled within a similar timeframe.

The core of the problem lies in the steering column control module. Reports suggest that the turn signal self-canceling mechanism, an anti-jam component, either doesn't meet specifications or suffers from an internal short circuit. This flaw not only compromises the functionality but also falls short of meeting the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

In response to this, Ram's manufacturer has issued a recall notice for 1,240 steering column control modules sold by Mopar. This proactive step is in line with ensuring customer safety and compliance with safety standards.

For those owning the impacted models, mark your calendars. Starting January 17, 2024, Ram will begin notifying owners about the recall. The remedy is straightforward – affected vehicles can be taken to a nearby dealership for a complimentary replacement of the steering column control module.

There's plenty going on in the car industry regarding safety and reliability of the vehicles. Quite recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has investigated 2013-2016 Ram 1500-series trucks, as there where some concerns about power steering assistance issues, potentially affecting 1.1 million trucks.

For Ram truck owners, staying informed and responsive to these recalls is crucial for ensuring both their safety and the optimal performance of their vehicles.
