Lotus Engineering is part of the British Group Lotus Company and this time is engaged in a consultancy joint with Jenson Button's JBXE Racing Extreme-E Racing  Squad to help them develop a racing car ready to compete at the inaugural season of the off-road championship for electric single-seat 4x4 category.

Lotus is the one that managed to develop performing lightweight sports cars with legendary handling and exceptional driver involvement. The company's goal is to keep up with driver enthusiasts and produce their sports cars by hand in small numbers.

As you guessed, they aim mostly for quality and performance. It's one of the automakers that managed to combine a good performance for a smaller price.  Using the engines made by Toyota and making their cars with minimal interiors makes the car achievable. Now, it's time to consult Jenson Button on delivering an electric vehicle with great performance on the race track.

According to Matt Windel, boss of Lotus Cars, "the complex technicalities of EV racing present a fascinating challenge, and using our learnings from more than a decade of electrifying sports cars, most recently with the Lotus Evija hypercar, we can bring valuable knowledge to the team.” J. Button will attend the competition alongside Sweedish touring care racer, Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky.

The 2009 Formula 1 worldchampion strongly believes that to achieve a good result, chose the British brand because it is inseparably linked to motorsport, and having Lotus Engineering on this journey is a proud moment for himself and his Extreme-E team.  This is also an opportunity for Lotus since they are evaluating the option of returning back to motorsport.

Rumors were heard about Lotus being linked to a potential Formula E campaign and even a possible F1 presence through the previously announced partnership with Groupe Renault's Alpine brand. As you've guessed already this is a win-win for both parties.
