Lexus Unveils the Electrifying HZ Series: A Fresh Take on Electric Vehicles

A new trademark filing has sparked excitement among Lexus enthusiasts, signaling the imminent arrival of an all-electric vehicle line named the HZ series. As discovered by members of the LexusRXOwners forum, Lexus, a subsidiary of Toyota, has registered the names HZ300e, HZ450e, and HZ550e.

This marks the first use of the HZ nomenclature, indicating a significant step in Lexus's evolution.

The trademarks reveal intriguing details. The "e" suffix clearly denotes an electric vehicle, as previously seen in Lexus's UX300e and RZ crossover models. The "Z" in RZ symbolizes the "Z axis" or "Zero," reflecting the model's high-tech nature.

Lexus

The HZ series promises an all-electric lineup with a visually stunning design. But what does the "H" signify? Lexus previously used "H" in the HS hybrid sedan, where it represented harmony. This could imply a luxurious focus for the HZ series. However, another possibility looms: hydrogen propulsion. Toyota, Lexus's parent company, is a leader in hydrogen technology, raising the prospect of a Lexus vehicle powered by hydrogen.

Lexus

Differing from Toyota's Land Cruiser, which may use a hydrogen combustion engine, the Lexus HZ series is expected to opt for a fuel cell setup, as indicated by the 'e' suffix. This points to a lack of a traditional engine, perhaps adopting a system akin to the Mirai, but with enhanced power.

Lexus

The model numbers hint at varied performance levels. The HZ300e could offer an entry-level option, while the HZ450e might serve as the lineup's core model. If it follows traditional BEV norms, we could see similarities to the RZ450e's 310 HP and 320 lb-ft of torque. The HZ550e, meanwhile, is poised to top the range with superior power and performance capabilities.

Lexus

While we await an official announcement from Lexus, the anticipation is high. If the HZ series follows in the footsteps of the recent LF-ZL Concept, it could redefine luxury electric mobility.
