This Land Rover Defender Goes Roofless

Think the Land Rover Defender is too rugged to go roofless? Think again. If you’ve ever dreamed of cruising in a convertible Defender, there’s now a stylish (and very bold) way to do it.
At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Urban Automotive showed off a drop-top version of the Defender 90. Interestingly, the convertible part isn’t actually Urban’s doing. That bit comes courtesy of Dutch specialists Heritage Customs, who were among the first to offer a soft-top Defender a few years back.

Urban, however, took that idea and ran with it, giving the Land Rover Defender a full makeover that makes it look far more aggressive than the standard factory build. This thing wouldn’t look out of place tearing through desert dunes or parked outside a beach club on the Mediterranean.
The transformation starts with a widebody kit, complete with flared wheel arches, a vented hood, and slick new LED daytime running lights. You’ll also find carbon fiber touches on the wing mirrors, front aero flics, and even the badging. A set of massive 23-inch black Urban WX-2 R wheels, wrapped in Yokohama performance tires, gives it a stance that’s impossible to ignore.

Up top, the factory roof is gone, replaced with a manually folding soft top and twin roll bars over the rear seats—just enough to keep that open-air vibe while still hinting at structure. As expected for the interior, the wow factor continues.
The rear seats are trimmed in bright Hermes Orange leather, while up front, Urban fitted carbon-backed Recaro seats for a sportier, more customized look. The leather theme carries over to the dashboard and steering wheel, tying everything together.

Urban hasn’t shared the full price of the example on display, but we do know that the soft-top conversion alone from Heritage Customs costs around €85,000, or roughly $99,000—and that’s before you add in all the extra upgrades.
