Ford has introduced the Equator Sport in China, a lighter, sexier, and more accessible SUV than the Equator, which has been on sale since last year. Ford Equator Sport, which premiered at the Guangzhou Auto Show a few months earlier, looks a lot like the original Equator. Nevertheless, the two SUVs vary greatly.

Ford Equator Sport's dimensions are 182.3 inches long, 76.2 inches wide, and 67.2 inches in height, with a 107.3 inches wheelbase. The seven-seater Equator, by contrast, is 10.8 inches longer, 0.2 inches slimmer, 1.9 inches higher, and has a 5.5 inch larger wheelbase.

Narrow LED headlights, a wide hexagonal grille, aluminum-style embellishments, and a contoured body are all part of Ford's new design philosophy. Inside, there's a free-standing panel with two 12.3-inch panels for the digital cockpit. The Equator Sport receives the Tencent TAI 4.0 system rather than Ford's SYNC4 infotainment system, which nevertheless provides the newest connection capabilities.

The Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite, which is currently available in the rest of the line, is used for ADAS on this model. With wood elements on the dash, a panoramic sunroof, and leather-style upholstery, the cabin looks to be really expensive.

A turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost motor with 168 horsepower (125 kW / 170 PS) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque is offered for the Equator Sport, which is supplied to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This arrangement differs from the Equator, Mondeo, and Evos, which all use 2.0-liter Ecoboost powerplants.

According to local media, the ICE-powered SUV will be followed by a PHEV model in the close future. Ford Equator Sport is already on the market in China, with prices ranging from ¥139,800 to ¥165,800 ($22,050 to $26,151). This makes it less expensive than the bigger Equator, which begins at ¥169,800 ($26,782), and the sportier Evos, which begins at ¥199,800 ($31,514).
