Imagine A Swiss 2023 Morand Hypercar With Hybrid And EV Powertrains Versions

Morand Cars want to deliver its customers a new hypercar in 2023 with optional hybrid and full EV powertrains, and a performance of 250mph top speed. The 2023 Morand vehicle will be manufactured accordingly using carbon fiber while the body will be made from the sustainable flax-based composite, Amplitex, developed by Morand’s Swiss partner, BComp.

For its full EV version Morand plans to power it with four permanent magnet motors, each driving through a reduction gearbox delivering a combined power output of around 1950bhp, and its 70kWh battery delivers 1400kW. According to Former Le Mans team manager, Benoît Morand, the carmaker is currently working on disruptive technology with cells that have a greater energy density than those used in Formula E with almost180Wh/kg.

Also, the battery charge rate is 8C and can accept up to five times its capacity. This allows a hypercar with a fully charged battery in 12 minutes via a 350kW charger and seven minutes via a potential 560kW charger. The main target here is to compete in the Grand Prix distance of 178 miles (301km).

As for the hybrid version, the Morand will be powered by a bespoke, 5.2-litre, naturally aspirated, 690bhp, V10 engine developing over 542 Newton-meters of torque. Successfully paired with an electric motor-generator sandwiched between the engine and an Xtrac, coupled to a 7-speed automated/manual/transaxle gearbox. Each one of the future motors will drive each front wheel delivering a total electric power over 440bhp and a total power output in the region of 1100bhp. Morand developed a unique storage device - a 300kW hybrid between battery and supercapacitor with a capacity of over 4.5kWh, offering an electric-only driving range of 31 miles.

The exterior shares a bonnet, doors, rear cover, wing, seats, and interior are made from Bcomp’s Amplitex.  “Working with the Italian engineering firm, Ycom, we have made crash cones for formula cars which have undergone trials with excellent results. In a monocoque, we will be heavier than carbon fiber but we will use the material to enhance performance and sustainability in the best way possible,” says Bcomp CEO, Per Mårtensson.

The prototype of the hybrid is scheduled to hit the market later this year, while the EV version will be seen in 2022. With a producing limited 73 units of both hybrid and EV version, the price for the Hybrid is set to start at $2,474,00 and the EV should cost around the same amount.
