Hyundai Expands China EV Lineup With E-GMP-Based Sedan

Hyundai is moving quickly to grow its electric lineup in China. Not long after teaming up with BAIC to launch the Elexio SUV, the brand is already working on a new all-electric sedan. No images or teasers have been shown yet, so the design is still under wraps, but it seems likely Hyundai will give it a distinct look rather than copying its global Ioniq family.
The Elexio looked quite different from Hyundai’s other EVs, and this sedan could follow the same path, perhaps mixing in some design cues from the SUV while keeping a more traditional three-box sedan shape.

Underneath, the sedan will use Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the same foundation as most Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EVs. That setup makes it flexible, offering both single- and dual-motor versions, different battery sizes, and a mix of range and performance levels to suit a wide range of buyers.

The cabin is also expected to take inspiration from the Hyundai Elexio. Instead of a standard gauge cluster, the SUV introduced a slim screen tucked at the base of the windscreen, paired with a wide display running across the dash that covers both infotainment and passenger features. If Hyundai carries that over, the sedan will lean into a tech-forward interior that feels different from many rivals in the Chinese market.

Reports suggest the car will debut in the first half of 2026, with deliveries starting that September. That timing would put Hyundai’s new sedan right in the middle of China’s booming EV market, where it will need to stand out against Tesla, BYD, and a fast-growing list of domestic competitors.
