Goodbye, Stick-Shift: The Final Manual Volkswagen GTI Has Been Sold
by AutoExpert | 3 April, 2025
Volkswagen has officially closed the chapter on the manual GTI. The very last one has been sold, and it slipped away quietly—no big ceremony, no dramatic farewell, just a humble goodbye.
The final stick-shift Volkswagen GTI, a black GTI 380, ended up at a dealership in Missoula, Montana. It wasn’t even a special order, but that didn’t stop Jamie Orr, a die-hard Volkswagen fan, from tracking it down. He made the 2,300-mile trek from Pennsylvania to Montana to snag it—clearly, he wasn’t letting this moment pass him by.

Rather than driving the car home, Jamie made a bold move. He towed it back using a Volkswagen Atlas wrapped in a wild Harlequin livery—a nod to the multi-colored Polo from the ‘90s. The whole adventure got captured on TikTok, where Jamie shared his excitement and gave everyone a peek at the end of an era.
The GTI 380 was a special edition launched in 2023 to mark the end of manual transmissions in the GTI lineup. It came with black seats, black mirror caps, a black roof, and, of course, plaid seat inserts—an unmistakable GTI touch. Power stayed the same, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder pushing out 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.
But now, it’s all dual-clutch from here on out. Starting with the 2025 model year, the GTI and the hotter Golf R are both automatic-only.
So that’s it—the end of the manual GTI. It’s headed to a passionate home, where it’ll definitely be appreciated. Goodbye, old friend. You’ll be missed.
