Fiat Topolino EV Is Officially Coming To America

Fiat is bringing one of its tiniest creations to one of the biggest markets. The Topolino, a small, slow-speed electric runabout built for short trips and tight spaces - is officially on its way to the U.S.

It’s a surprising move, but Fiat seems confident there’s room for a fun, ultra-compact EV that keeps things simple and sticks to neighborhood life. Despite its size, the Topolino is about to make a memorable entrance.

The automaker isn’t going into all the details just yet, but we do know this: the Topolino is going to be an electric urban commuter. It has two seats, a motor that makes 8 horsepower and 32 lb-ft of torque, and a 5.4 kWh battery. Expect 46 miles of range, which will do you just fine between coffee runs and aimless suburban drives.

The thing isn’t built for speed. In fact, the top speed of the Topolino in Europe is 28 mph, and it takes 10 seconds to get there. It’s perfect. The Topolino is in the same league as golf carts, only cuter and much more Italian.

The Topolino comes in a few variations in Europe. You may be familiar with its siblings, the Citroën Ami or the Opel Rocks. None of those are making the trans-Atlantic journey, at least not without a plea from Fiat to a random Dodge/Jeep executive who desperately needs some anarchy in their life.

What’s most deceiving about it is its shortness. The Topolino is only 99.8 inches long. The wheelbase is even smaller than some motorcycles. The Fiat 500e dwarfs the Topolino, and that car is almost comically small.

Fiat’s U.S. unveiling of the car was during Miami Art Week, so the automaker brought a more artsy version of the car for the occasion. Built with artist Romero Britto, it features his signature bright colors, bold geometric shapes, rope-style doors, a blue roof, and custom wheels. It even came with a name for galleries – the “Brittolino.”

Fiat’s CEO Olivier François, says the little EV has already become a hit in Europe and keeps grabbing attention every time it appears in the States. The public reaction was apparently loud enough that Fiat finally said, “Okay, fine, America needs this thing.”

And honestly? They’re right. U.S. roads are full of giant trucks, massive SUVs, and crossovers that look like bunkers. The Topolino is the exact opposite - tiny, friendly, and here to prove that not every car needs to take up an entire ZIP code.
