Volkswagen has just rolled out the facelifted Nivus in South America, bringing fresh styling and tech updates to this subcompact crossover. Known as the Taigo in Europe, the Nivus also introduces a sporty GTS trim, set to launch in 2025, with eye-catching design elements and a more powerful engine.

The revamped VW Nivus showcases a sleeker look with redesigned headlights that incorporate a full-width LED strip, a narrower grille, and a larger bumper intake. Meanwhile, the profile gets a stylish boost with new 17-inch wheels finished in a striking diamond and piano black.

At the rear, updates are more subtle, featuring a new bumper design and improved LED graphics in the darkened taillights. Plus, VW has expanded the color palette to include two new shades: Turbo Blue and Titan Blue. The upcoming Nivus GTS is also generating excitement. This sporty variant will flaunt a unique honeycomb pattern in the lower bumper intake, GTS badges on the grille, side, and tailgate, along with exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the dashboard gets an upgrade with a modern 10.1-inch touchscreen display, offering additional connected car features such as remote locking, live location tracking, and valet mode. Depending on the trim, buyers can choose between an 8-inch or a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, wireless charging, and automatic climate control.

Under the hood, the Nivus carries over a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine (200 TSI) that runs on both gasoline and ethanol. It delivers 128 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque on ethanol, sending power to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Expect the upcoming Nivus GTS to share specifications with the Polo GTS. This sportier version of the supermini features a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine (250 TSI), offering a punchy 148 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.

The facelifted VW Nivus is now available for order in Brazil, starting at R$136,990 (around $24,480). It’ll be fascinating to see if these updates make their way to the European-spec Taigo.
