New De Tomaso P72 Combines A Manual Gearbox With 700 HP

It’s been almost seven years since the De Tomaso P72 first appeared, looking like a concept car nobody expected to actually reach production. Now it finally has, and the first customer-spec example might be one of the prettiest modern supercars we’ve seen in a long time.
This particular build is called Aurelian Night, and the spec alone feels expensive before you even notice the details. The body is finished in an ultra-deep blue that almost turns black in darker light, but under the sun, it suddenly reveals all the curves and surfaces that make the P72 look so dramatic in the first place.

Then come the Rose Gold accents. They run across the splitter, intakes, side skirts, and diffuser, and along a stripe stretching from the hood to the rear deck. The wheels and mirrors wear the same finish, and somehow it avoids looking tacky. There’s something about it that feels more yacht or watch-inspired than automotive.

Inside, the cabin follows the same theme with Venetian Blue leather and Rose Gold details scattered everywhere. The exposed shifter, analog gauges, steering wheel, and controls give the cabin the feeling of something designed by people who still care deeply about mechanical details. While other hypercars chase screens, the P72 focuses on feel and detail.

Underneath all the beauty sits a carbon-fiber chassis and a supercharged 5.0-liter Ford V8 producing 700 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque. More importantly, it sends everything to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. That alone makes the P72 feel old-school compared to the endless wave of hybrid hypercars chasing numbers and software tricks.
