Bushwakka’s Land Cruiser 79 Camper Comes With Beds, Solar Power, And A Kitchen

Bushwakka’s latest build turns the old-school Land Cruiser 79 Series into something you could comfortably disappear into the wilderness with for days.
Built by South African company Bushwakka, the Kamelback 4 completely replaces the rear section of the Land Cruiser with a custom aluminum camper module. It’s not a slide-in attachment or a removable box. The whole thing is integrated into the truck itself and designed for long trips far away from normal roads.

The big upgrade over Bushwakka’s older setup is the sleeping space. There’s now a second bed built into the pop-up roof, joining the lower fold-out bed to create room for four people. Once parked, the roof lifts, the awning swings out, and the Land Cruiser basically turns into a compact cabin on wheels. There’s even enough standing room inside through the full-height rear entry door, which already makes it feel more livable than a lot of smaller campers.

Bushwakka also packed in a surprisingly complete kitchen setup. Buyers get storage for a fridge up to 90 liters, a two-burner gas stove, hot water, a 90-liter water tank, and enough cookware for four people. Optional extras include a fold-out shower cubicle with LED lighting, roof racks, ladders, and solar panels producing up to 380W.

Power comes from a lithium battery system with an inverter, DC-DC charging, multiple outlets, and LED lighting throughout. In theory, you could disappear into the wilderness for quite a while before running out of electricity, water, or patience for sleeping outdoors.

The camper body is made from marine-grade aluminum and mounted directly to the Land Cruiser chassis for durability in rough conditions. Pricing for the Bushwakka Kamelback 4 starts at around R547,000 ($33,300), and that’s before adding the actual Land Cruiser donor truck. Expensive, sure, but cheaper than getting stranded somewhere your camper can’t handle.
